What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet, or phone) when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognise your device and remember certain information about your visit, such as your preferences or login status.

Similar technologies include:

  • Local storage — data stored directly in your browser, used for saving session or preference information
  • Session identifiers — temporary references that allow our platform to track a single session without persisting after you close your browser
  • Persistent identifiers — longer-lived identifiers (such as Firebase UIDs) that allow us to recognise returning users across sessions

For the purposes of this policy, we refer to all of these collectively as “cookies.”

2
How Studiely Uses Cookies

We use cookies strictly for the following purposes. We do not use cookies for advertising, behavioural profiling, or any purpose unrelated to providing and improving our educational platform.

2.1  Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for Studiely to function properly. Without them, certain core features would not work.

  • Purpose: Authentication — Firebase Authentication uses session identifiers to keep you logged in during your session, so you do not need to re-enter your password on every page
  • Purpose: Security — Cookies help us detect and prevent fraudulent or abusive activity
  • Purpose: Platform stability — Session data is used to maintain the integrity of your interaction with the platform

Strictly necessary cookies cannot be disabled without severely impacting platform functionality. We do not require your consent to set these cookies, as they are required to deliver the service you have requested.

2.2  Functional Cookies

These cookies remember your preferences and settings so you do not have to reconfigure them each visit.

  • Remembering your selected curriculum, subjects, and study mode preferences
  • Storing your difficulty settings and personalisation choices
  • Maintaining language and display preferences where applicable

Functional cookies are not strictly necessary but significantly improve your experience. We will seek your consent before setting non-essential functional cookies where required by law.

2.3  Analytics Cookies

We use Firebase Analytics to understand how users interact with Studiely, which features are most used, and where we can improve the platform. This helps us make Studiely better for everyone.

Firebase Analytics may set cookies or use similar persistent identifiers to collect:

  • Page views and navigation patterns
  • Feature usage and engagement data
  • Crash and error diagnostics (via Firebase Crashlytics)
  • Approximate location (country or region only — not precise GPS location)

Analytics data is anonymised or aggregated where possible. It is not used to build personal profiles, and it is never used for advertising.

For users under the age of 13, analytics cookies are disabled by default unless verifiable parental consent is obtained in accordance with COPPA requirements and applicable law.

3
Third-Party Cookies

Studiely uses Google Firebase, which may set or read its own cookies as part of the services it provides. These cookies are governed by Google's Privacy Policy and are used solely in connection with the Firebase services described in our .

Firebase Privacy Policy:

We do not permit any third-party advertising networks, social media platforms, or data brokers to place cookies on Studiely. We do not share cookie-based data with third parties for their own purposes.

4
Subscription & Payment Cookies

Where Studiely processes payments directly through our website (using Paddle or equivalent payment processors), these processors may set necessary cookies to facilitate secure transaction processing. These cookies are strictly limited to payment functionality and do not collect or share data for marketing purposes.

App store purchases (via Apple or Google) are processed entirely outside of our website, and Studiely does not set or read cookies in connection with those transactions.

5
Cookie Duration

Cookies used by Studiely fall into two categories based on duration:

  • Session Cookies: Session cookies — these expire automatically when you close your browser. They are used to maintain your login and session state during a single visit.
  • Persistent Cookies: Persistent cookies — these remain on your device for a set period after your visit. Firebase may use persistent identifiers to recognise returning users and maintain analytical continuity. We configure these to be retained only as long as necessary for their stated purpose.
6
Your Cookie Choices & Controls

You have several options for managing or restricting cookies when using Studiely.

6.1  Browser Settings

Most browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can:

  • Block all cookies
  • Delete existing cookies
  • Block third-party cookies specifically
  • Set preferences for which cookies to allow

Please refer to your browser's help documentation for instructions specific to your browser. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent Studiely from functioning correctly.

6.2  Analytics Opt-Out

You can opt out of non-essential analytics tracking by:

  • Adjusting your browser or device privacy settings to limit tracking
  • Contacting us at to request an analytics opt-out

Declining analytics cookies does not affect your access to Studiely's educational features or any paid services.

6.3  Device & App Settings (Mobile)

For users accessing Studiely via our mobile apps (Apple App Store or Google Play), cookies are not used in the traditional browser sense. However, Firebase may use similar device-level identifiers for analytics and crash reporting. You can manage these via:

  • iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking
  • Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads

Please refer to our (Apple App Store version or Google Play version, as applicable) for further details.

7
Children's Cookie Use

Studiely is committed to protecting the privacy of children. In particular:

  • We do not use advertising cookies of any kind on or in connection with Studiely
  • For users identified as under 13, analytics cookies are disabled by default
  • We do not use cookies to build profiles of children
  • We do not allow third-party advertising networks to set cookies through our platform

Parents and guardians can contact us at to enquire about cookies set during their child's use of the platform, or to request that cookie-based data linked to their child's account be deleted.

8
Legal Basis for Cookie Use

Where applicable under GDPR, UK GDPR, or other data protection laws:

  • Strictly necessary cookies are placed on the basis of our legitimate interest in delivering a functional and secure service
  • Non-essential cookies (functional and analytics) are placed only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time

We do not treat your continued use of the platform as implied consent for non-essential cookies. Where required, we will present a clear and affirmative consent mechanism.

9
Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies we use or in applicable law. We will notify users of material changes via in-app notifications or, where appropriate, by email. Continued use of Studiely after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Cookie Policy.
